The Representative of District 7 in Nimba County and Chairman of the Rule of Law Caucus, Musa Hassan Bility has announced a 50% reduction in his monthly salary and benefits to impact the Saclepea Comprehensive Health Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Nimba Lawmaker in a press statement issued recently, said his decision is predicated upon the suspension of U.S. assistance through USAID to Liberia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He noted that the suspension of U.S. assistance through USAID poses a grave danger to the Liberian economy and as such, they must be prepared to take decisive action to protect their schools, hospitals, and the security of the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTo this end, as the Representative of District 7 in Nimba County, I wish to announce today that I have taken the first step toward mitigating this crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I am voluntarily reducing my salary and benefits by 50% and urge my fellow lawmakers to do the same\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Furthermore, the Representative said he will ensure that these funds are allocated to a specific area that directly impacts the people of his district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rep. Bility said in consultation with the management of Saclepea Comprehensive Health Center, he has decided to dedicate 50% of his salary and benefits from now until December toward the well-being of this vital institution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He explained that the hospital administration informed him that their 2025 budget was cut from $120,000 to $75,000, jeopardizing their ability to undertake meaningful projects and improve services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to him, one critical area affected by this budget reduction is mobility for doctors and nurses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He furthered that the hospital had hoped to purchase a pickup truck to facilitate emergency response and ensure that healthcare professionals could reach patients promptly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, this plan he noted, was no longer viable due to the budget cut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Recognizing this urgent need, Rep. Bility disclosed that he has taken the initiative to redirect 50% of his salary and benefits toward procuring this vehicle so that the hospital can carry out its work without undue hindrance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He intoned that this is not just about making a financial contribution but about demonstrating leadership, patriotism, and selflessness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rep. Bility continued: \u201cWe must acknowledge the economic shock that the abrupt loss of U.S. aid will create and take proactive steps to cushion its impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
USAID has been instrumental in Liberia\u2019s post-war recovery and ongoing development.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said the looming cuts present a defining moment for them to establish economic discipline and reinforce their commitment to the people they serve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Lawmaker has at the same time extend his appreciation to the President of Liberia, Joseph Nyuma Boakai.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He narrated that they see that the president is taking similar measures and making concrete steps to ensure that the Executive Branch recognizes the pending danger and is acting accordingly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He clarified that this decision is not about personal wealth or capacity but about sacrifice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Additionally, Rep. Bility said It is about showing his colleagues and fellow Liberians that they as leaders must put their people first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He then challenged all members of the Legislature, the Chief Justice, and members of the Judiciary to take similar actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI call upon my colleagues in the 55th Legislature to follow suit\u201d Rep. Bility recounts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He asserted that they must prove that they are willing to bear the burden alongside their citizens and do whatever they can to protect those who entrusted them with leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis contribution may seem small in the grand scheme of things, but I hope it inspires other leaders to act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Let us shed selfish interests and redirect whatever resources we can toward the well-being of our people\u2014whether in our districts, communities, towns, or villages\u201d he recommended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
