The Superintendent of the Weala District Conference of the United Methodist Church, the Liberia Annual Conference, Rev. J. Methuselah Sackie has lauded partners of the district for their support to the district during the period under review.
Delivering his annual message at the seat of the 27th annual session of the Weala District Conference in Bong Mines, Bong County on Thursday, Rev. Sackie glorified God for the opportunity the Church has to partner with IGRC and the Springfield First UMC.
According to him, the Springfield First UMC is doing well in partnering with the Weala District Conference noting Rev. Dr. David M. Tokpah and other friends as well as partners whose names are not mentioned.
He continued that during the year under review, the Porsgrunn UMC of Norway provided 20 pieces of pew/beaches, PA System, and a modern toilet.
Rev. Sackie furthered that the Springfield First United Methodist of Illinois provided scholarship support to so many young Liberian children who are enjoying education now at the John Wesley United Methodist School, other grade schools while some students are in other professional institutions.
He thanked another partner, the GBGM through the department of health for the support to the construction work that is being done on the Weala District Health Center and also Father Alison Paygar and his team for providing a free eye surgery for most of the members of the church and the communities.
He also lauded Mother Muriel V. Nelson and her friends for providing salary support to two of the District’s Pastors Rev. Torpu Peters and Rev. Boimah Coleman both of whom are from the Dein-polu region.
The Weala District Superintendent on the other hand acknowledged the support of the Representative of District #7, Bong County, Foday Fahnbulleh for his support to the Conference.
According to him, the Bong Lawmaker supported the district with the plastering of the Taylor UMC coupled with the donation of one hundred bags of rice to the ongoing District Conference amongst others.
Speaking on progress made by the district during the period under review, Rev. Sackie mentioned that the district successfully completed its first and second rounds of charge conferences.
“Actually, it was wonderful as we received activities and programs of our local churches. There was collaboration, coordination as well as corporation during the first round of our charge conferences of our churches, preaching points along with every organization of the district” he explained.
He added that the district was able to carry on teaching and education especially training of the Lay-pastors and Lay-speakers who will be certificated at the seat of the conference.
Rev. Sackie at the same time disclosed that many churches across the district are involved into cassava, rice farming, indicating that there are plans underway for the district to undertake rubber farming and other cash crops.
He also revealed that the Weala District Conference has made a very significant payment to its landlord for which it has been given the assurance to start making farm on the land.
The Liberian Clergy called on all local churches across the district to get ready this year to get involve into farming business this year to get themselves prepared for future challenges.
On the other hand, Rev. Sackie outlined the elevation of the Weala United Methodist Clinic to a health center in 2024 and the successful closing of the Weala United Methodist School without a debt owed its instructional and administrative staffs for the first time over a decade
As for challenges, Rev. Sackie intoned that due to the serious financial crisis in the country which the district is of no exception, the Weala District Conference raised 36% of the L$2,500.000.00 budget it approved for 2024.
He expressed hope that the district meets up with the balance during the ongoing conference which runs from January 13-19, 2025.
In conclusion, Rev. Sackie thanked Bishop Samuel J. Quire, Jr. for his leadership role played in the life of the conference, the United Methodist Church as well as the membership of the district for their unending support to God’s work.
