Zorzor-Lofa County, Liberia: The Zorzor Central High School in Lofa County is struggling with a lot of things that are supposed to be on course to enhance the smooth operations of the institution. The school is a government run institution.
The many challenges confronting the school are unpunctuality of teachers, reduction in salary, unconducive seating capacity, the need for auditorium and teachers’ lounge. There are also some of the teachers who are not on payroll in the school.
Some senior students of the school speaking to this news bureau in Zorzor City recently expressed irregularity on the part of their teachers.
Two of the students, Klubo Mulbah and Yassah Kolubah complained that a lot of times, they go to school receiving very limited number of teachers to administer their lessons.
According to them, out of six periods that they are supposed to get teachers attending to them during the day, they, in many instances can get just two teachers going to class making their time to be wasted.
They added that the teachers normally express their disappointment of not being on the payroll.
The principal of the school also confirmed that he struggles with teachers many times. Daniel K Forkph noted that at times, he gives warnings and imposed fines against the teachers that stubbornly renege on their duties.
Said teachers’ complaints are forwarded to the office of the district education officer, he added. He narrated that some teachers are on pay roll, some experiencing reductions in their incentives and some are not on payroll. He was also fast to note that those of the teachers who are not on the payroll were enumerated by the Ministry of Education already and they might start taking pay very soon.
Though he listed his achievements, he also named some of the issues as the need for better seating capacity, teachers’ lounge and auditorium.
He however appreciated the Government of Liberia for making increment in the salaries of some of the teachers who are on payroll in the school, though some of them reported reductions in their salaries. He expressed his delight that for the first time, he received his salary recently in line with his qualification since he started working in the school years ago.
