In an effort to support the Government of Liberia in meeting the health needs of Liberians, the Taongi National University (TNU) has launched a free medical outreach program. The program which is expected to last for very long time was launched in the James Dennis Community in Weala, Cinta Township District #: 5, Margibi County recently at a palava hut in James Dennis Community.

The program is aimed at ensuring that sicknesses and diseases such as worms, stomach pain, rashes and birthmarks, headache, malaria, fever, food allergy, febrile seizures and eyesight, vision are treated.
Others are earache, diarrhea and vomiting, dehydration, cough, cold and air infections, constipation, colic, burns and sores, bronchiolitis, asthma and many others.

A key one among them is the circumcision of male children which has benefited a lot of children since the media outreach began.

The implementers of the Taongi National University ‘s free medical outreach program are students of the institution’s nursing department and the program is benefiting women and children, mainly pregnant women, babies, baby mothers, children, old and young people.

The program is also set to benefit people in many regions of Liberia including Salala, Lower Bong County the surrounding areas which are Lower Gbarpolu, Upper Margibi, Upper Grand Bassa and Upper Montserrado, especially the Todee District. Following that, the team is expected to travel to others counties.

The Provost of the Taongi National University, Dr Mike M Sonpon said the team is composed of the TNU Nursing Department in collaboration with some health workers who are volunteering, and it is also headed by a volunteer, Dr Sammie R Konneh, a Pharmacologist.
He however gave an assurance that the program is going to be held every week at different locations in the country. He told Throngtalk News Bureau that the program has for the past three (3) weeks made a great impact in the Weala region. According him, the free medical outreach team has been based in a strategic part of Weala-Cinta Township District Number Five, Margibi County which is the James Dennis Community.
Meanwhile, speaking to some of the beneficiaries, they appreciated the Taongi National University for the free medical services and called on partners to the institution to support the program to enable it continue being a blessing to more Liberians.
They told our reporter that considering the challenges that face the health sector of Liberia, it is very necessary for all well-meaning Liberians, philanthropists, non-governmental organizations and development partners to give financial support or medical supplies to support the program.
