In the midst of observing its homecoming, the leadership of the Alumni Association (AA) of the Booker Washington Institute or BWI has set the leadership roadmap for the association.
The homecoming is celebrated under the theme: “Prospecting the Tiger’s Vision For BWI Towards The Centenary.”
The roadmap which covers a lot of key areas of the BWIAA has been crafted and presented to the various chapters for their inputs, considering their suggestions, rejections and way forward.
The president of the association, Thomas M Parker, during the official celebration of the BWIAA homecoming program held at the institution’s library annex in Kakata, Margibi County on March 22, 2025, presented and briefly discussed the document through a power point presentation.
He explained that present leadership has work for nearly a year now and they have tried developing a roadmap that could be aligned with what the BWI Administration has as a working tool.
He averred that next year is a constitutional year for the BWIAA in which they do not want to go into without having a roadmap or plan of activities which the executive committee would have done it alone but was never going to be fair to leave out all of the chapters and branches available out in deriving the leadership roadmap.
He named the key points as structural reforms, adding that there are branches and chapters that have had elections for years and some of the branches have reached the level of being promoted to a chapter as well as chapters that have been dormant over the years.
He also talked about project and infrastructural development, AA digital transformation and communication, founder’s day celebrations and preparations amongst others.
While also speaking reporters about the homecoming program, Mr. Parker said the roadmap, when adapted by the association will be used for their proceedings in the association.
He stated that the homecoming is not like the usual ones that have over the years seen merit making, but the association thought to use this year’s homecoming for planning purpose that will bring together memberships from various chapters and branches that will craft and adapt a document that will lead the BWIAA to the next year as the current leadership tenue is expected to come to end next year.
According to him, the leadership does not want to run the association without activities that are being approved by the membership.
He narrated that they are also focused on how they could provide leadership and support to the branches and chapters of the association.
They, he noted want to achieve having activities that will be driven by the alumni association, not just the leadership.
Meanwhile, the alumni association working groups at the homecoming adapted the drafted roadmap to be taken to the national convention for endorsement.
