The President of the National Scrabble Association of Liberia (NASAL), Lester D Morris says Liberia is the only country that bided for the African Scrabble Championship 2026 meant to be held in October.
According to him, once the bid is accepted, Liberia is going to produce the highest prize category in the history of African Scrabble Championship. He stated that he looks up to the bid being accepted as they are preparing themselves to make the country proud.
He made the statement in Kakaka, Margibi County recently at the Cyntheo Guest House along the Bong Mines Road at the closure of the 2025 National Scrabble Association of Liberia Championship which brought together lovers, supporters and players of the game from different parts of Liberia.
Some of the individuals who graced the occasion include, the current and former Kakaka City Mayors, Rev Gbarngawoe Eddie Seboe and Mr. Eddie Zubah Murphy, the national and local leadership of the association, members and key players who have made some tremendous strides over the years and many other different people.
At the end of NASAL’s 2025 championship, several individuals were certificated including the former defending champion, Lemuel Gibson the current champion, Joseph Gegeh, 2nd and 3rd places runner-ups, Malek Sheriff and Roland Boykai as well as people who also achieved special accolades from their performances during the tournament.
One of the strongest players and a former defending champion, Eddie Zubah Murphy, also ex-city mayor of Kakaka and so many others were also given special recognition for their roles during the championship.
The events were chaired by Mr. Fumba Swaray, an attorney of law and a key person in NASAL coordinated in collaboration with the leadership under the auspices of the president of NASAL. It was sponsored by FinCredit, an institution to which gives instant loans for salaried employees headed by Mwanja Patrick as general manager.
Making a remark during the program, Mr. Patrick said he was encouraged by some members of the NASAL who he first came into contact with when he entered Liberia years back.
He cautioned the National Scrabble Association of Liberia to encourage females’ participation as he didn’t observe any other amongst the gentlemen at Cyntheo Guest House.
He however pledged his commitment to always working with them in as much as he remains the General Manager of FinCredit Liberia.
