A very recent victim of armed robbery and the owner of a parking lot in Kakata, Margibi County, Peter Gibson is seriously calling on the Government of Liberia to take drastic actions against robbers in the country as a way of curtailing their activities.
Mr. Gibson who was recently attacked around 3:00 am by seven men carrying both cutlasses and guns who made away with four new TVS motorbikes says if the government does not take steps against robbers now, peaceful citizens will be unable to freely walk in the streets in Liberia at certain point in time.
He spoke to this platform on Sunday October 12, 2025 in Kakata where he also said the robbers are not only harmful to the country but burdensome because they have refused to do anything worthy for themselves, instead, they find pleasure in surviving by bringing setbacks to others.
Explaining another robbery incident he witnessed in the Gotumo Town Community of Kakata at night, he stated that another group of seven men attacked and stabbed a young man on his neck for his own phone and walked away with impunity.
Relating to another armed robbery situation, he stated that an old man was under compulsion to allow the robbers make away with several phones in Kakata after he was placed at gunpoint. Currently, he narrated that the man is now in hiding because the phones did not belong to him.
“If the government does not step in to take drastic actions against these criminals, my brother, one year, two years from now on, it will be difficult for us to walk by ourselves in the streets,” he added.
Narrating his misfortune, he lamented that the guys who armed robbed him tied him and threatened to kill him if he didn’t cooperate with them.
According to him, one of the robbers used his cutlass to flog his son who served guide along with him on the day of the robbery.
The parking lot owner who is in the business of securing people’s vehicles for reasonable amount of money daily, weekly and monthly further expressed that one of his customers, a taxi driver by the grace of God helped to untie him when he went for his car.
The guy, he maintained made efforts to inform the police in Freeman Reserved that armed robbers were escaping with some motorbikes so the police managed to retrieve one of the bikes but the carriers escaped.
The man told this paper that the rest of the bikes are yet to be retrieved as the owners have already taken him to court but they gave a contrary information about the issue to the court making it to appear like a civil case where as it is a criminal case.
He wants the police to do more in investigating the robbery situation and get the rest of bikes to be turned over to the onwers who entrusted them in his care.
