Report reaching Throngtalk News Bureau says as a result of huge challenges confronting players and officials of the Margibi County Sports Team, the team is seriously threatening to boycott this year’s county’s sports meet if nothing is done immediately to find the necessary solutions to the problems.
How be it, this medium is aware of the Ministry of Youth and Sports’ contribution of 1.8 million Liberian Dollars to aid the counties in getting prepared for the tournament and the team budgeted about US$200K for the county’s meet.
The team which is expected to depart the county very early January 9, 2025 to Grand Gedeh County where it is in zone with Montserrado, Grand Gedeh and Grand Kru Counties outlined the lack of finance to handle the issues of materials for the players like booths and other players’ wears, food and transportation as well as other players’ welfare.
Our microphone visited the team on camp at the Kakaka Rural Teacher Training Institute (KRTTI) January 8, 2025 after their evening practice section where the Public Relations Officer or PRO, some players and the team manager expressed their disappointments in the Margibi County Legislative Caucus.
Like the rest of the players who were remarking disappointingly against the county officials, the PRO, Andrew Kollie, the goal keeper, Jimmy Dorbor, Team Manager Aloysius Flomo voiced out their sadness in the manner and form in which the caucus is playing low profile on approving the county’s budget or getting funding to get the team ready.
Margibi Sports Assocition or MSA PRO, Andrew Kollie

Explaining the unforeseen situation of the team, PRO Andrew Kollie said MSA released the 25 men that make the team but with no food on camp, stating that the players can’t just be taken from Margibi to Grand Gedeh with no funding.
From day one of the justification of players, he said none of the lawmakers in the county has made a dime contribution to the players. He averred that all of the lawmakers of the county are officially informed through written communication.
Speaking further, he mentioned that the Margibi County District #: 4 Representative, Emmanuel O Yarh who is the secretary of the county’s caucus said it was January 8, 2025 that his chief of office staff informed him about a letter written to his office since November 2024 and that the MSA Chairman confirmed on the same date that not a dime has been approved by the caucus.
He continued that people are just classifying the 1.8 million Liberian Dollars to be a lot of money but it is only able to account for transportation alone for both the football and kickball teams along with their officials.
He warned that if the lawmakers do not turn out on the night of January 8, 2025, the team will not participate in the tournament. In Andrew Kollie’s statement, the newly appointed coach emphasized the need for the players to be fed about three times daily but the team lacks food, water and other things.
He put this year’s budget for Margibi at around US$200,000.
While thanking some people for their little support thus far, he called on well-meaning Margibins and Liberians to turn out and give their assistances to the county.
He lauded the county superintendent, the steering committee chair and MSA Chairman for their tireless efforts in ensuring that the residents of the county are informed about their support to the county’s sports meet.
The PRO says Margibi is placed in ‘Zone B’ with Montserrado, Grand Gedeh and Grand Kru Counties
He narrated that the team concluded eight test matches in the lower end before coming to the upper part of the county.
Magibi Goal Keeper, Jimmy Dorbor

Jimmy Dorbor, the goal keeper said he is highly frustrated in the lawmakers because, since they began justification, not a single member of the county caucus has shown up at the camp though they are supposed to travel out of the county for the sports meet.
He said they are not prepared to play any match now unless the lawmakers meet them. He maintained that up to the present time, the county has not made the availability of a single booth or camp wear and food to any of them (players) as they are still using their practicing jerseys after practice.
According to him, Montserrado which is in zone with them is very well prepared, adding that they have not seeing anything regarding transportation. He lamented that football game is not about sympathy.
A player of Margibi, Andrew T Dennis, Jr

Another team member, Andrew T. Dennis, Jr spoke that they are unhappy, further mentioning that what makes players excited during county’s sports meet is when the support is available enabling players to be well fed, but they are not happy with their lawmakers as other counties are bragging about support.
At the moment, he added that there is no money to buy food, water and rent bus for transportation. He noted that he is calling on the citizens of the county to also come out and support the team because Margibi is all they have.
Comparing this year’s county’s meet to past ones, he told reporters that one could tell that the meet was in full gear owing to the level of support given them at the time.
He complained that in the past, especially 2022, the players had quality booths but for now, the players are using their personal booths to practice for the county’s sports meet in Margibi.
He however called on the lawmakers of the county, the citizens and companies to join hands with the Margibi Sports Association or MSA Chairman to take the county to the next level.
Margibi County Team Manager, Aloysius Flomo

For his portion, the team manager Aloysius Flomo said since November 2024 when the players’ justification started, there has been nothing from county authorities, mainly the caucus, nothing that there are some institutions that have so far contributed.
The team manager in a very frustrated mood said as of the 8th of November 2024, Margibi’s budget for this year’s county’s sports meet along with the various disciplines were sent to every member of the county’s caucus but to date, nothing is done.
He stated that the team is supposed to pick up for Grand Gedeh but there is no transportation and feeding for the team. He wonders how the county expects the MSA to take up to 75 persons to as far as Grand Gedeh with no transportation and food. There is no food on camp, he maintained.
He noted that it will be better for Margibi to boycott the meet and be fined by the organizers rather to proceeding with disgrace.
When he was questioned regarding what the county did with the 1.8 million Liberian Dollars given by the Ministry of Youth and Sports to prepare counties for the games, he explained that the money was given for transportation but if the amount is only used for transport, four buses to be taken to Grand Gedeh and back, considering the time that will be spent, the amount can’t solve the problems of feeding and getting other materials for the players.
Meanwhile, Margibi has always faced issues with funding during county’s meet. Either the MSA did not inform the caucus ahead of time or the caucus did not approve the money in time.
The players have always got to protest and embarrass the county authorities before they get paid after the entire county’s meet. More updates to follow as soon as possible.
