After threatening to boycott this year’s county’s sports meet as a result of compelling challenges on January 8, 2025, the Margibi Sports (MSA) has been rescued in the dime minutes to continue with its dream of participating in the tournament.
The MSA travelled on January 9, 2025 to Grand Gedeh where it is expected to take on Montserrado, Grand Gedeh and Grand Kru Counties in the group stage of the meet beginning Sunday January 12, 2025.
The county’s team on January 8, 2025 through the public relations officer or PRO, Andrew Kollie, team manager, Aloysius Flomo and some of the players expressed disappointment in the county’s caucus for not showing up at the camp since the justification began while other counties’ officials were marching with their players in the streets and giving their support as a way of building momentum.
They named the lack of transportation, food, water, players’ wears and other things needed to take them ahead in the county’s meet.
They also complained that a communication with Margibi’s budget for this year’s county’s meet had earlier been given to the lawmakers but no efforts were being made by them.
To this, the secretary general of caucus admitted that communication was written to them since November of 2024 but he received his on January 8, 2025 from his chief of office staff. He made the disclosure on Classic FM Liberia in the county.
Due to all the above mentioned challenges, they threatened to boycott the yearly traditional sports tournament that unites Liberians.
After all their cries, the Margibi County District #: 3 Lawmaker, Ellen Attoh Wreh contributed fifty thousand Liberian Dollars (50,000 LD), the CEO of Jetty Rubber LLC, Mr. Jetty made available one thousand five hundred United States Dollars (1,500 USD) and some minimum contributions from some well-wishers along with portion of the money given by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Youth and Sports gave each of the counties an amount of one million eight hundred thousand Liberia Dollars (1,800,000 LD) earlier on to assist the teams in getting prepared for the tournament.
There was no direct information from the MSA to this medium regarding the said contributions from Mr. jetty and Rep Wreh.
Though Throngtalk News Bureau made some efforts in finding out how the team suddenly continue with the trip to Grand Gedeh instead of the boycott, there were no responses to a text message and calls placed to the public relations team of the MSA.
But it is also reported that each of the players received seven thousand Liberian Dollars (7,000) each as feeding to go to Grand Gedeh as there were about four buses made available to transport the teams (football and kickball). There is no information yet about any amount from the county’s caucus to the MSA.
