The Proprietor of the least fees school in Zorzor City Lofa County, the John Zawu High School, Apostle David Zawu is calling on well meaning Liberians, philanthropists etc, to come to the aid of the school in supporting education in Lofa and Liberia.
He calls upon those who have the mind to support education to see the need to come to the aid of the school in enhancing its capacity to enable it impact more less fortunate Liberian children acquire quality education.
The school which was built in honor of the father of the proprietor, the late John K Zawu who nearly lived his entire life working for the Lutheran Church in Liberia was established in 2009 beginning with the amount of two hundred United States Dollars (US$200), using mud and stakes before it was improved to its current state of building.
The school currently is built with blocks, plastered and painted with brown and white colors which are also the colors of the school ‘s uniform.
Speaking to Throngtalk News Bureau on the main campus of the school in Zorzor City, Lofa County on Feb 5, 2025, Mr Zawu who was recently commissioned as an apostle in the Christian Inter-denominational Assemblies or CHRIDA said when he started the school project years back, many people under estimated him and scorned him that life in Monrovia was unfavorable for him because he graduated from a Bible school, yet he returned in the area cutting and haling stakes just to have a school built.
He added that he was not deterred by any of the criticisms because God sent him to build a school to help Lofans and Liberians so the fees are the least in Zorzor with 12th graders paying around eight thousand Liberian Dollars (L$8,000) while nursery students pay three thousand Liberian Dollars (L$3,000) for all the requirements.
He explained that the school has been one of the most populated schools in the area because of the fees with sometimes enrollment climbing up to seven hundred students.
According to him, he has been very busy with the work of the church so he left the school under the auspices of some individuals since 2020 to 2024, but they undermined the vision and almost broke the school down, leaving huge financial responsibility and the declination in the enrollment this year.
He lamented that the guys discouraged many of the students through their leadership of the school at the time they led the institution.
He noted that at times, he waves over two hundred thousand Liberian Dollars (L$200,000) to parents and students who have financial obligations to the school but can’t afford. He complained that the folks to whom he entrusted the school told him that they were not paying the staff because many parents were reneging in paying their children’s fees. He noted that he has returned to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem, expressing his optimism that more students will attend the school during the second semester.
Some of the folks in question, he disclosed got scholarship to further their studies through the kind courtesy of the school. The institution has teachers holding BSc degrees, ‘A’ ‘B’ and ‘C’ certificates. He said the current major challenge of the John Zawu High School is arrears owed teachers which he is working toward but the present workforce is appreciative about the working atmosphere of the school.
God, he narrated has been with the school and will continue to bless the forward march.
The school runs two sessions, he maintained. He is also encouraging well-meaning Liberians, non-governmental organizations, philanthropists etc who have the mind to support education in the country to come to the aid of the school.
