Margibi, Liberia, March 13, 2025: TheMargibi County Detachment of the Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency or LDEA has conducted a one day interactive forum in Kakaka Margibi County.
It is aimed at discouraging Liberians, especially young people from getting involved into drugs abuse.
The forum which was hosted at the Kakaka Administrative Building saw folks from the national headquarters and the Margibi County Detachment of the Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency or LDEA, Liberia Immigration Service (LIS), students from Kakaka, community dwellers and other law enforcement officers from the county in attendance.
It was held on March 13, 2025 with officials from the LDEA’s National Offices doing special presentations on topics detailing the abuse of drugs, their impacts, preventions, measures taken to deter people from taking the narcotic substances.
They also spoke about the drugs law and the punishment for violators.
Speaking to reporters at end of the program, the LDEA Head in the County, Alex Flomo who has also been into combating drugs in the county, rehabilitation of a disadvantage youth, arresting and sending to court alleged drugs dealers for prosecution and admonishing students from getting involved into drugs dealing, mainly on their campuses said they organized the awareness to have the community outreach and prevention team of the LDEA coming to Margibi to do awareness for the first time under his leadership.
He stated that their job is not just limited to arresting and sending drugs suspects to court but to also create awareness and do prevention as prevention is better than cure.
He noted that the key message was informing Margibians that drugs is dangerous and destroying the fabric of the youthful population of the country. He added that it was also about encouraging the participants to be ambassador of change for their colleagues and others who are proceeding wrongly.
The head of the community outreach services and prevention, Grace G Mulbah of the LDEA that went to Margibi County said Margibi is one of the most populated counties but the county has many of its residents associated with drugs dealings so the awareness is very necessary.
She noted that it was also focused on telling the participants the harm drugs cause to people. The key component of the discussion, she narrated was based on the three pillows of the LDEA including Demand Reduction, Harm Reduction and Supply Reduction.
