The 2024/2025 National County’s Sports Meet officially kicks off on Sunday January 12, 2025 in the various zones set up by the Ministry of Youth and Sports after its postponement in December 2024.
The tournament is viewed by many Liberians from three different backgrounds including traditional, financial and political. This edition was postponed last year due to the unreadiness of the organizers who asked for ample time to get fully prepared.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports however named Bong County as the official host of the 2024/2025 County’s Sports Meet while Sinoe, Grand Gedeh and Grand Cape Mount Counties are placed in the terrain of co-hosts.
The counties, considered as the teams during the sports meet are placed in four categories, ‘Groups A, B, C and D.
In Group A, the teams are Bong, Grand Bassa, Maryland and Bomi with Bong hosting, in Group B, Grand Gedeh, Grand Kru, Montserrado and Margibi Counties are the teams as Grand Gedeh hosts, Sinoe, River Cess, Lofa and Gbarpolu are in Group C having Sinoe as their host and in Group D, Grand Cape Mount, Nimba and River Gee are paired, hosted in Grand Cape Mount.
Established during the year 1956 in Liberia, the county’s sports meet will have official opening ceremony on Sunday January 12, 2025. It is organized by the Ministries of Youth and Sports and Internal Affairs as a national symbol of reconciliation and unity in Liberia.
The quarter finals will last from January 25-26, 2025 at the Samuel Kayon Doe Sports Complex in Monrovia after the group stage. The semifinals will be January 29 and the grand final is expected to be February 2, 2025.
