As a way of investing in the agriculture sector of Liberia a farming group in Margibi County District #: 4 has benefited from a former representative candidate of the district.
The gesture was done by Mr. Joseph Jimmy Sankaituah who contested the representative seat of the district in the 2023 elections and secured a second place in the competition.
They received two (2) bags of fifty (50) KG seeds rice to be planted. The rice was given along with a cash of twenty-nine thousand, two hundred and fifty Liberia Dollars (L$29, 250) on January 30, 2025.
The group of farmers who told Throngtalk News Bureau that they are currently at the stage of developing a name for the group are based in Compound Town, Larkay-ta Township in District #: 4, Margibi County.
The seeds rice last for three months before getting prepared for harvest after it is planted and it is Mr. Sankaituah’s initial contribution to the group, according Julius Wenneh who made the donation on behalf of his boss (Sankaituah).
While presenting the seeds rice and money, Julius said about a while ago, the farmers had a meeting with Mr. Sankaituah and told him about their plan to engage into agricultural activities that will see different products but they did not have the support needed.
As a man who has so much interest in agriculture, he promised to work with them in making sure that they succeed in their farming.
He said there are a lot of things that are supposed to happen from the end of Mr. Sankaituah in time according to their discussion and the rice and money mark the beginning for that group.
Taking delivery of the seeds rice and money, the head of the group of farmers, Weedor M Moore expressed his delight and noted that he is glad because he knows the background of the support coming from Sankaituah in relation to their last discussion on working together.
He explained that though other projects have been going to the area and failing, theirs will be very successful. He described the donation as a beginning of their upliftment in the agriculture sector of Liberia.
Mr. Sankaituah who contested on the ticket of the ruling Unity Party (UP) in Margibi County District #: 4, recently told this news bureau that he will remain engaged with residents of the district through his projects and activities, aimed at improving their lives.
The UP Stalwart who has been involved with identifying with residents of the district and carrying on projects and activities as of 2024 added that he will continue his work before, during and after any election because he has been doing them without public office.
He explained: “We contested to have the leverage while sitting around the table of leadership as representative. However, our passion to serve remains despite not winning the election. Those are things we have been doing without public office, and we will continue to do them before, during and after any election.”
As of 2024, Mr Sankaituah who is a former president of the Federation of Liberia Youth (FLY) rehabilitated the reservoir he built in Compound Town, a central town for many villages and towns in the Larkay-ta Township, provided rice for several villages in District #: 4 for their new year celebration, organized a group of agriculturists in Larkay-ta to venture into rice and vegetable productions with his support and rehabilitated two community hand pumps constructed by him during the campaign of 2023.
