Liberia’s Minister of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism, Jerolinmek Matthew Piah has admonished the Inquirer Newspaper to remain on the path of professionalism.
Addressing the workforce of the Inquirer Newspaper at the opening of a three-day (January 31- Feb 2, 2025) retreat organized by the leadership of the paper at the Creed Lodge on the Marshall Road in Lower Margibi County, Minister Piah said Inquirer has a good reputation in the media community.
According to him, the Inquirer Newspaper is not one of those media institutions that do not provide honest and sincere coverage for people for not being given money.
Minister Piah stated that when the current Managing Editor of the paper, Christiana Winnie Sayah-Jimmy took over she tries to follow the path of what the former managing editor (Philip N. Wesseh) left behind.
“Even the honoring that Media Institutions do sometimes they reach out to you and say John Browne we want to give you some kind of honor in the end maybe some anticipations are there or some expectation.
But with the Inquirer you just wake up in the morning you see an article they finding their own personality of the year and you will only know about that when you see the article being published” the information minister narrated.
He stated that what that tells him is that the entity is remaining on that professional foundation that was established by Mr. Wesseh and all those who worked with him over the years.
Minister Piah continued: “So, that’s the main reason I thought to come so as to encourage you to remain on that path.
He believes that it is good for people to always see a media institution as a credible Newspaper or Radio Station that is threading on the path of integrity other than see it as a blackmailing institution.
“And we are convinced that the Inquirer Stands out when you try to identify credible media institutions from the Liberian media landscape, so, congratulations to all of you” he acknowledged.
The information minister meanwhile lauded the management of the paper for organizing the retreat which according to him allows people to reflect and to see what is going right or wrong to be able to recalibrate and keep moving.
He also applauded Madam Saywah-Jimmy for keeping the legacy of the immediate past managing editor, Mr. Philip N. Wesseh.
