To enable less fortunate students acquire quality higher education, the Taongi National University or TNU situated in Salala, Lower Bong County has launched it student loan program.
Helping the Liberian Government in promoting quality higher education that is affordable and available to all, the program is aimed at accommodating people desirous of attending the school but unable to pay the full tuition.
The student loan program, being launched with the involvement of Liberians from different spectrums of the country intends to make sure that all interested persons opting to achieve university education will not stay out of school because of the tuition especially at the Taongi National University.
TNU, an emerging world class university working very hard to meet and exceed global academic standards with emphasis on research, promoting and practicing global trend in research, creativity, and innovation is approved by the national commission on higher education in Liberia to offer and award bacher’s degree.
The university states that the program will enable students to go to school now and pay the rest of the tuition upon their graduation.
In stead of paying US $258 per semester, the university through its president says all students benefiting from the student loan program can pay US $20 or more per month up to the time of completion of their studies while the rest of the payments will be credited to the students’ accounts for payment after their graduation.
In a conversation with Throng Talk News Bureau recently at the launch of the program in Liberia, Dr Mike M Sonpon explained: “TNU student loan program has started. Come to school now and pay later. Tuition at TNU is $258 USD per semester but, you don’t have to worry about paying all this money now. Youl only need to pay $20 USD every month until you graduate. The balance will be credited to your account as a debt to be paid after graduation.”
Having students from Bong, Margibi, Montserrado, Gbarpolu, Bassa and other regions of Liberia, TNU has set ‘making quality higher education affordable and available to all’ as a goal to achieve.
Dr Sonpon added that the school practices philosophical higher criticism with emphasis in the critical literary forms.
The university president who is also the provost of the institution noted that Dr Dewey E. Painter Sr, is Chancellor of the Taongi National University, Dr. Kenneth Lierle is the International President and Director for Curriculum Development while master’s degree and PHD holders inclusive of foreign lecturers teach at the school.
Many Liberians have begun expressing their delight about the student loan program describing it as a dream come true, a rescurer and the first of it kind in the country.
